- HPE developed the Oracle Performance and Cost Assessment to help enterprise customers see firsthand how and where they can significantly improve performance and reduce Oracle license and support costs.
- Using purpose-built tools, HPE engineers identify bottlenecks that inflate the licensed cores required to achieve desired performance levels. By accurately characterizing Oracle workloads, the assessment helps customers make the right choices for modernizing their server and storage platforms.
- The assessment can help ensure that the underlying architecture is designed specifically to improve performance without escalating the cost of software and support fees—typically far greater than the cost of servers and storage.
An HPE Solutions expert will contact you to schedule the assessment.

HPE offers an Oracle performance and cost assessment — at no-charge to qualified customers — that will help you understand how much you can improve and save.
What if you could increase Oracle performance and keep critical databases available while reducing licensing, infrastructure and management costs?

Is the Assessment right for you? |
The HPE assessment tool is compatible with any server running Oracle database, including IBM Power/AIX, SPARC/Solaris, and x86 systems running Linux or Windows.
Understand where bottlenecks exist, where licensing investments are paying off, and where they are not, to determine the right mix of infrastructure.

How to increase Oracle performance per core |
Example – CPU utilization
Sample chart from an Oracle assessment report, generating using HPE’s proprietary Database Performance Profiler (DPP) II.
By eliminating cores, this customer could save over $300K in Oracle support costs*
|
- Chart shows CPU utilization and IO wait time.
- It was generated on a 64-core server with Intel processors
* Assumes new server with 16 Intel CPU cores and 40% discount on Oracle DB support costs for 3 years. $300K is based on no longer using license, thus no longer paying support renewal/costs. If repurpose the license, then incur the support costs but save spending 5 times as much in license costs
A customized analysis of your Oracle environment could help you save millions.
What is your top Oracle Database priority?
Boost performance and scalability
Maximize uptime for critical databases
Reduce licensing, infrastructure and management costs
Complete backups in a shorter timeframe
All of the above
HPE’s Oracle performance and cost assessment helps enterprise customers see firsthand how they can significantly improve performance and reduce Oracle license and support costs.
Utilizing Oracle AWR logs, but with far richer insight than AWR reports, HPE's purpose-built, zero-impact tool analyzes database behavior over time and identifies bottlenecks that inflate the licensed cores required to achieved desired performance levels.
By deploying an architecture specifically designed to improve database performance per processor core, savings in software licensing and support fees often far exceed the cost of servers and storage.

Your organization may qualify for a free Oracle performance and cost assessment if:
- CPU utilization never goes over 12% — replacing with a new, smaller server would be effectively free because of Oracle support cost savings.

In this example, the charts show how Oracle RAC is distributing workload across a cluster — or, in this case, is not.
This is a PeopleSoft environment running on a three-node
cluster. Ideally, Oracle RAC would distribute the workload evenly across the three clustered servers. The upper diagram shows total throughput for the three servers: 18.21 GB/second. The lower diagram is the throughput of one server: 18.16 GB/second. The difference is .05 GB/second—virtually 100% of the computation takes place on a single server.
For this application environment, a better solution would be to run the database on a single server with flash storage. Oracle RAC and associated licensing costs could be avoided. If RAC is required for high availability, Oracle RAC One Node can be used at less than half the cost of a full cluster license.
Overview of a recent customer assessment. The top line shows the original environment, and the second line summarizes the planned expansion. After running the assessment, HPE proposed lowering the number of servers while increasing memory by a factor of five. (See third line.)
The result—potential savings of well over $3 million USD in licensing and support over the first three years.
